Traditional Scandinavian Oatmeal Porridge
A simple Scandinavian-style oatmeal porridge cooked in one pot, using rolled oats, water, and salt for a clean, nourishing base.

Ingredients
- 3 dl (1¼ cups) rolled oats
- 1 liter (4¼ cups) water
- 3 pinches salt
Instructions
- Add the water, rolled oats, and salt to a saucepan.
- Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring once or twice to prevent sticking.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from the heat and let rest for 1–2 minutes to thicken.
- Stir once more and serve warm.
Tips & Variations
- For a thicker porridge, reduce the water to 8–9 dl (3⅓–3¾ cups).
- For a thinner porridge, add a small amount of hot water after cooking.
- Stirring more frequently during the final minutes produces a creamier texture.
