Carob Squares

Carob Squares

A chewy, naturally sweet bar made with carob, tahini, honey, and whole-grain oats — perfect for desert.

Yield: 18x27 cm pan, 20 bars | Prep: 15 min | Freeze: 1+ hr | Total: 1+ hr

Ingredients

  • 1.5 dl (⅔ cup) carob powder
  • 1.5 dl (⅔ cup) water
  • 1.5 dl (⅔ cup) honey
  • 0.5 dl (3 tbsp) tahini
  • 8 dl (3 ½ cups) whole-grain soft oats
  • A pinch of salt
  • Coconut flakes, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the carob powder, water, honey, tahini, oats, and salt. Mix well to form a sticky dough.
  2. Prepare a baking pan approximately 18x27 cm (7x10.5 in) by sprinkling a thin layer of coconut flakes on the bottom.
  3. Press the dough evenly into the pan, smoothing the surface with a spatula or hands.
  4. Sprinkle additional coconut flakes on top and press gently to set.
  5. Using a knife, score the dough into 5 rows along the wide side and 4 rows along the short side to create bars.
  6. Store the bars in the freezer. Remove before serving.

Tips & Variations

  • Serve slightly chilled for a firmer texture or at room temperature for chewier bars.
